 The National Electrical Contractors Association and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers are well known for their highly trained electricians who begin their training through our jointly funded Joint Apprenticeship and Training Programs. All training is funded through contributions by area union electrical contractors. The only expense for students is the cost of their books.
There are three different apprenticeship programs available depending on the type of work an individual would like to specialize in. Applications for apprenticeship are taken the first Monday of each month with a nonrefundable $20.00 application fee. A brief description of each program is given below:
 Journeyman Wireman Apprenticeship Program
The individuals in this program are training to work on all aspects of electrical installations for commercial and industrial construction, which would include new construction, maintenance, and remodel work. Apprentices in this program must complete five years of school and 8000 hours of on-the-job training to successfully complete the program. School is normally held one night per week with extra nights devoted to special classes such as CPR and welding. Class time is approximately 220 hours per year. Wages are based on a percentage of the Journeyman wage rate with benefits being a pension, annuity and family health insurance.
 Residential Wireman Apprenticeship Program
This program is designed for those individuals who wish to specialize in new home construction, which would include apartment buildings, single and multi-family homes, and condominiums. Apprenticeships for this classification consist of three years of classroom instruction and 4800 hours of on-the-job training. School is normally one night per week and amounts to about 180 hours per year. Wages are based on a percentage of the Residential Wireman rate and benefits include a pension and family health insurance.
 Tele-Data/Communications Journeyman Technician Program
This program is for individuals who wish to specialize in all aspects of communications work which includes installing and maintaining telephone and computer systems, intercom systems, nurse and emergency call systems, security systems, video systems, and entertainment systems. Apprenticeships consist of three years of school and 4800 hours of on-the-job training. School is normally held one night per week for 180 hours per year. Wages are based on a percentage of the Journeyman Technician rate and includes an annuity and family health insurance.
